| THE ATLANTIC COASTīS SELF CONTAINED PARADISE | |
| Just 4 miles to the East of Puerto Plata lies Playa Dorada, the area's largest multiresort complex. With 4,549 superior guest rooms distributed in 15 hotels, surrounded by crystal clear beaches, facilities for meetings and conventions, gymnasiums, one of the Caribbean's best golf courses -- designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. -- and an incomparable night life, it 's little wonder that Playa Dorada has become the hospitality capital of the Amber Riviera.
An Enchanting Environment
This self-contained paradise unfolds along beautiful landscaped gardens, with pedestrian paths ideal for jogging or walking. The lawns of each hotel property within the complex seem to flow into the next, creating a well integrated environment. All the hotels here enjoy the vitality of Playa Dorada's golden beach...a sun drenched stretch of sand with vibrant vegetation and aquatic activities that ensure a new option for every vacation day. In Playa Dorada all the buildings are low rise -- maximum three stories -- so the natural vegetation dominates. Thanks to the strictly enforced building codes, the complex doesn't feel dense despite its high number of rooms. Some of the hotels are on the beach and others are around the golf course, but even those that are off the beach are within a short stroll and have their own private beach club. Notwithstanding the short distances, the hotels have golf carts, trolleys and other means of shuttling those who don't feel like walking.
Endless Activities
Along Playa Dorada's 3 mile long beach, each hotel has its water sports center including windsurfing gear, pedal boats, kayaks, Banana boat, water ski, gliding and snorkeling equipment. A great place for visitors of all ages, Playa Doradas all-inclusive, worry-free hotels pride themselves on providing excellent supervised fun activities for children and personalized service to everyone. While Playa Dorada also boasts excellent tennis facilities, its main attraction is the 18-hole championship golf course designed by acclaimed Welsh architect, Robert Trent Jones Sr.
A Superb Golf Course by the Master Himself
Opened in 1976, it is a par 72 course that extends 6,990 yards through the complex, winding itself through the hotels. It is a fairly flat, conditioned course with exceptional layout, good for those who like to walk during the game. In the golf clubhouse you can also find a complete range of services: pro shop, restaurant, club rentals and storage, bar cart and more. Trent Jones also has to his credit the spectacular oceanfront Playa Grande golf course, a 90 minute drive East of Playa Dorada. If you are an avid golfer, your visit to the Amber Riviera Coast would not be complete without playing both these courses.
Shopping and Entertainment
Playa Dorada's nightlife is second to none in the area, as nowhere else can you find so many options to pass the night: 50 restaurants, 38 bars, 3 casinos, 5 discotheques and a cinema. This, in addition to the live shows presented nightly at each of the all-inclusive resorts.
Plaza Dorada, the resort's shopping complex, is the ideal place to have fun and shop. This 26,000 square foot commercial center is situated in the heart of Playa Dorada and houses over 70 retail outlets on 2 floors. Here you will find bars and restaurants, tour desks, banks, internet service, rent-a-car agencies, jewelry and fashion boutiques, cigar and gift shops, restaurants and cafeterias, a children's playground and a cinema. All of this around garden terraces where you can sit and relax. With all it has to offer, Playa Dorada Plaza is no doubt the Amber Riviera Coast's largest commercial center. A section of Playa Dorada Plaza also doubles as the resort's convention center. The center has hosted a number of meetings and trade shows in recent years and plans are under way to attract larger international meetings. Although it offers all the privacy and security of a well designed enclave, Playa Dorada is by no means isolated. It is only a 15 minute drive from Puerto Plata International Airport and less than 5 minutes from the picturesque town of Puerto Plata with its Victorian treasures and quaint shops. |
